High Canadian Standards for Pipeline Maintenance

The Salvus to Galloway Maintenance Project was initiated to repair or replace sections of the pipeline that are in need of maintenance. By engaging local communities and indigenous peoples for further input and feedback, PNG is examining the overall impact of bringing the pipeline up to current safety and environmental standards. This three-year project will support the wellbeing of communities through safer gas lines while supporting jobs and preserving economic activities in the region.

    High Canadian Standards

Canada’s strong pipeline maintenance regulations have ensured that this pipeline has been regularly inspected and maintained, which has allowed PNG to identify the current need for repairs and replacement. The intent of the project is to bring damaged pipeline infrastructure up to current safety and environmental regulations and standards, as well as enhancing stability. Specific targets of the project include addressing geotechnical risk and ensuring reliable long-term energy supply for communities throughout the region.

The three-year project will include steps to ensure regulatory compliance and environmental prosperity, such as integrity digs to assess conditions and identify anomalies, site preparation, management of surface and groundwater, and finally detailed site remediation.

    Balancing Interests and Integrity

This project is also engaging the local community and Indigenous peoples to seek further input and feedback regarding environmental impacts. Pipeline infrastructure issues are a delicate balance between public safety, the economic viability of the industry, and regulatory compliance. The Salvus-Galloway Pipeline Project will be an important step in maintaining that balance on our shared natural environment while continuing to supply natural gas for exports at Canada’s third-largest port in Prince Rupert.

This undertaking supports jobs while preserving economic activities in the region by providing safer gas lines with less risk of leakage.
