Canada – A Leader in International Climate Policy and Action

Did you know that two-thirds of Canada’s current power supply is non-emitting? This means that our energy needs are fueled by clean electricity from hydro, wind, and solar.

Those numbers are only improving as Canada’s oil and gas industry continues to innovate. Since 2009, Canada’s oil sand’s average greenhouse gas emissions per barrel have dropped 21 percent, and further reductions of 20 to 27 percent are projected by 2030. The aggressive legislature aimed at reducing methane emissions paired with $1.4 billion annual investment in clean technology by Canadian companies show that Canada is walking the talk, and turning policy into action.

    What’s next?

The demand for energy across the world is only growing, and Canada is a top contender for meeting that demand with responsible energy products. Of the $1.4 billion spent on clean energy by Canadian companies per year, 75% comes from the natural gas and oil industries. Canada’s track record for innovation, continuous improvement, and dedication to environmental performance has led the International Energy Agency to recognize Canada as a leader in climate action and supplier for stable and responsible energy supply.

What does that mean for us?

As the world adjusts to catch up to the strides Canada has made in climate action, Canadian companies are ready to see a return on their investment into clean energy. The US Government recently announced the federal climate plan to create a net-zero economy by 2050, supported by an increase in green energy technology. As Canada’s primary trading partner, this places our traditional energy companies in a strong position to meet the incoming demand for green energy.

From these numbers we can see that the investments Canadians have made into developing clean energy solutions will have a significant positive impact on our economic recovery and the great outdoors we are proud to call home.
