CALEP 2026 Northern Horizons

Connecting People. Powering Progress.

That was the theme of CALEP 2026 Northern Horizons, and after a few days in Edmonton with land and energy professionals from across the industry, we can say it delivered on both.

Ken Woronuk, Wade McLeod, Jordan Blouin, Kyle Wig, and Sacha Plotnikow represented AiM at this year’s conference, hosted by the Canadian Association of Land and Energy Professionals. The program covered a lot of ground: Alberta’s economic outlook, the policy and regulatory landscape, royalty models, carbon capture, and how the next generation sees careers in energy.

AiM was proud to be a speaker sponsor for two sessions that sit close to the work we do every day:

“Seeing Beyond the Checkbox: The Future of Reciprocal Indigenous Consultation,” with David Bearspaw, George Minde Sr., and Ewa Wasniewski, on moving consultation past regulatory requirements and toward real partnership.

“Energy Regulatory & Surface Rights Update: Tales from the Trenches,” with the team from Bennett Jones LLP, on current issues before the Alberta Energy Regulator and the Land and Property Rights Tribunal.

Meaningful Indigenous engagement that goes well beyond meetings, reports and project requirements, as well as regulatory, and surface land are all part of the many integrated services that AiM brings together under one roof, so it meant a lot to help put those conversations on the agenda. Our team came home with new perspectives and new connections.

Thank you to CALEP and everyone who organized such a well-run, welcoming event. We had a great time.
